StatDoctor™ Golf Software - Frequently Asked Questions

1) How can I transfer my StatDoctor scores to a new computer?

StatDoctor keeps all your courses, scores, and statisitics in a file called "StatDoctor Data.data" (on Macintosh), and in two files called "StatDoctor Data.4DD" and "StatDoctor Data.4DR" (on Windows). At a minimum, you need to copy these data file(s) to your new computer. The following are some general instructions for moving these files.

a) Download the latest complete version from this web site and install it onto the new computer. This gets everything installed correctly (including a Start menu entry under windows).

b) Then you need to replace the file called "StatDoctor Data.data" (on Macintosh), or the two files called "StatDoctor Data.4DD" and "StatDoctor Data.4DR" (on Windows), that came with the new installation, with the copies from your old computer. These files tend to get big, so it is not always easy to transfer them. Try the following methods:

While your still using the old computer, email the data files to yourself. Then, hook up the new computer, retrive these files by checking your email, and then install them in your "StatDoctor" Directory on the new computer. This doesn't always work as some email servers limit the size of files that can be transferred. If this is a problem, please contact us, and we will try to work out a solution for you.

Another option is to use a CD burner to make a copy of these files.

2) Error Message: "No Room to save the record!"

If you get this message, there are a few things to look at:

1) Under Mac OS X, you do not have the proper permissions to write to the data file, so it is being reported as full. Please move the file StatDoctor Data.data to your documents direcotry and re-run StatDoctor. Hold the option key down on the keyboard while StatDoctor is loading, and it will ask you to select a datafile. Select the file in your Documents Directory.

2) Is your hard drive full? If so, you will need to clear some room on your hard drive to enter more rounds.

3) The data file is in read only mode and will not accept modifications. This tends to happen under Microsoft Windows if you copy (back up) your StatDoctor installation onto a CD-ROM, and then copy it back to your hard drive. Windows sets all files coming from a CD-ROM as read only.

To fix this, make sure StatDoctor is not running, then find your StatDoctor Data.4DD file (it should be in the StatDoctor folder in Program Files), right-click on it, and select properties from the pop-up menu. Make sure the "Read Only" property near the bottom is not checked. If it is, click the box to uncheck it and click the "Apply" button. See below:

3) Switching from Windows to Mac OS X

If you are switching to Mac OS X from a version of Windows, please follow the directions below:

1) Download the latest StatDoctor for Mac OS X from the download page on this website.

2) Copy the StatDoctor application to your Applications directory.

3) Copy the two files "StatDoctor Data.4DD" and "StatDoctor Data.4DR" from your windows computer to your Mac. Place these files in your Documents directory.

4) Run StatDoctor. It will ask you to open a data file, navigate to your documents directory and select "StatDoctor Data.4DD".

5) You should see the message below. Click convert.

6) You will now have one file called "StatDoctor Data.4DD" and your scores and courses from your windows installation should all be there now.
